Ebola outbreak in Kasai province

Kasai Ebola outbreak

On 4 September, authorities confirmed an Ebola outbreak in Kasai province, with at least 64 cases, including 53 confirmed cases and 31 confirmed deaths reported in Bulape health zone. The Ebola Zaire strain has been identified, and some patients are health workers. A Rapid Response Team, supported by WHO experts, has been deployed. Containment measures, including checkpoints and contact tracing, are in place. Vaccines are being administered to contacts and frontline workers.

Those most at risk include health workers, mourners handling bodies and people in contact with infected individuals or animals. Transmission occurs via direct contact with blood, bodily fluids, organs or contaminated surfaces. Case numbers are expected to rise while the outbreak continues.
